The Business of Music - Entertainment Law and the Songwriter

Entertainment Law in the San Diego region has been synonymous with Mirowski & Associates for two decades. Professionals know business in the entertainment industry is as complex as it is treacherous. Only the naïve rely upon a "handshake deal." Those who fail to have the law on their side and proper contracts soon discover the meaning of chaos when lawsuits are filed and productions are never completed. A business in chaos seldom reaps a pro.t. When entertainment professionals are ready to get down to the business of making money, they know they need the experience and professional representation. Mirowski & Associates provides legal representation to all facets of the Entertainment Industry in San Diego, La Jolla, Del Mar, El Cajon, La Mesa and Chula Vista regions and throughout Southern California including music labels, record companies, musicians, composers, lyricists, managers, producers, film, television & multimedia companies, stage & theater, performers, models, artists, authors, writers, and entertainment industry professionals. The members of the firm specialize in negotiating and drafting entertainment industry contracts, licenses, record deals, works made for hire, publishing, mechanizing, sports and endorsement contracts and protecting entertainment industry intellectual property including copyrights, trade-marks, unfair competition and moral rights.

Paul J. Mirowski is Chairman of the Entertainment & Sports Lawyers section of the San Diego County Bar Association. Mr. Mirowski has practiced law in San Diego since 1982. He has also served as an adjunct professor at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law, UC San Diego and Grossmont College. He has written and lectured on topics including Protecting Technology, Software Pirates and Scams in the Entertainment Industry. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about Entertainment Law, and to have your questions about legal aspects of the business of entertainment answered.

  2. Performances will be thirty to forty-five minute sets with 2 to 3 different performers.

  3. Each performer will be required to send out email notices to their lists. Canyonfolk will also send to theirs.

  4. All shows will be outside and Canyonfolk will provide the sound system. We have 2 mics and stands so if more is required performers will provide.

  5. Admittance will be $7.00 with the donated proceeds to be split evenly amongst performers. CD sales are for performers to keep.

  6. There is no monetary guarantee to performers and Canyon folk will provide only restrooms, backyard and sound system. Performers do thier own mixing for the sound system.

  7. Audience will provide their own chairs/blankets and are allowed to bring a picnic lunch/coolers and their own drinks. Beer and Wine will be allowed. Canyonfolk will not provide food or beverages.

  8. Show time will be from 1pm to 4-4:30pm.

We are constantly asked "how can we play your series?" We have a set criteria for headlining here and not all musicians can fill these. They are extremely talented and we love listening to them but again they are up and coming in their field. We have come up with the idea of The Sunday Social. Each performer will be picked by canyonfolks and will have an opportunity to perform in the backyard. This is not an open mic but by invite only. email sdsongwriters@hotmail.com if you want to participate we will forward your info to conyonfolks
